•
In this episode, Dieter and I talk about travelling the journey of life, what defines us and, of course, we mention the hero's journey! We discuss what happened when Dieter found the pastoral following him in his secular jobs, and how he realised what was calling to him.
•
I really enjoyed this conversation because we explored how we might all describe church or community as something very different and how, essentially, we're all travelling our own journeys but arriving at the same destination.
•
We also talked about how we can frame the things we do as what we are called to do each day and how that can change our perspective. I hope today's episode gives you much to ponder, as it did for me. Click on the link in my bio to listen.

•
This week is mostly about embracing life at a gentler pace. Pottering about. Visiting some of our favourite places like Hartington, Ashbourne and Biggin. Doing a recce of the local area, and exploring.
•
Letting it sink in that we’re now locals, not visitors! Pretty epic!

•
Right at the very end of the podcast Sam mentioned his mother's suicide which happened two weeks before the birth of Sam's twins. We talk about how this affected Sam and mental health awareness.

Four more sleeps! Then we’re off to Derbyshire! Four more sleeps! Then we’re off to Derbyshire!

The house is 95% packed. This morning the oven was spring cleaned ready for the new owners. We’re packing those fiddly last items.
•
It’s funny to think that this all started, just over a year ago, when I said to @blindwoodturner, I’d love to live in Derbyshire and he said, why don’t we?!
•
So, we are!
Brenden Kumarasamy is a coach and the founder of M Brenden Kumarasamy is a coach and the founder of MasterTalk @masteryourtalk, a YouTube channel to help others master the art of public speaking.
•
We chat about how to present effectively, the importance of building a foundation first, making your story relatable, and creating repeatable presentations. Brenden also shares his thoughts on a topic close to his heart, the water crisis, and his focus on helping solve this through his association with charity: water.
•
As well as covering that perennial challenge, overcoming fear of public speaking, Brenden talks about how we are each uniquely positioned to solve specific problems and how we should prioritise where we invest our time, and how public speaking can be a great medium and opportunity to spread our ideas.
•
If public speaking is something you would rather avoid at all costs, Brenden's suggestions will really help you. Click the link in my bio to listen.
I read a tweet a couple of days ago, written by @n I read a tweet a couple of days ago, written by @nickyaacampbell and talking about the sadness of letting go of furniture and the family home following the deaths of his parents.
•
There were many comments in the thread from people who had been or were still in similar situations.
•
What was the best approach? Keep everything. Clear things out quickly. Do it gradually.
•
I’ve been sorting my Mum and Dad’s stuff for 7 years. First when my Mum died, then when my Dad and I bought a house together, and then again when he died 4 years ago. Now I’m having a final sort out before @blindwoodturner and I move house.
•
What have I learned? It gets easier to let go of things as time goes by. Sometimes you just have to tackle it on another day. In some respects the grief is always there and perhaps it would have been simpler to have done it all in one fell swoop and got it over with. I’m undecided on this one.
•
What I know to be true, for me at least, is that eventually you have to draw a line. There is a before and after. A time to move forward. A new chapter to begin.
•
This is an empty bottle of my Dad’s favourite tipple. He discovered it first when we had a holiday in Yugoslavia. He brought some home with him and eked it out. I discovered a shop in London where I could buy it for him. One bottle would last about a year. I toyed with the idea of putting lights in the bottle but decided a photograph would suffice.
•
It’s not the things in themselves that matter but the memories associated with them. Those stay with you always.

This is, what I call, my tree. I've loved this tre This is, what I call, my tree. I've loved this tree for many years. There is a little indentation where you can just fit both feet and lean against the trunk of the tree. I've stood there on lots of occasions. Sheltered by the huge canopy, looking out at the branches waving in front of me, and the ever changing sky.⠀
⠀
When I lived near Heaton Park, I visited several times a week. At weekends I would be there as soon as it started to get light, walking and photographing for 5 or 6 hours. It was my sanctuary.⠀
⠀
We went to the park this week for some lunch and a walk. I had a few moments with my tree. It might be the last time I see it for a while.

I’ve loved photography since I was 9 and started taking pictures with a tiny film camera. I can still remember the thrill of the postman delivering my prints and the anticipation of seeing the photographs.

With the advent of digital cameras, my photography was revolutionised. I was no longer limited to 36 frames and didn’t have to wait a week or so for my film to be developed. I could rush home and see the results straightaway. I graduated from a small Fuji to a DSLR with a full complement of lenses. Every spare moment was taken up with photography.

A further evolution happened with the iPhone and most of my photographs now are taken with my iPhone 8+. I’m often found down grungy back streets in Manchester indulging my love of street art and decay.
